Deforestation has been quite challenging to Ghana’s forest ecosystem. With the growing demand for energy in Ghana, the rate of deforestation is likely to accelerate other ecological/environmental problems. Increasing population is exerting pressure upon the region, forcing the disintegration of the environment as people continue to cut trees in order to meet their fuel and construction-based needs.
In many places, the most vulnerable, marginalized and poor
households are concentrated in rural communities that rely on natural
resources for food, livelihoods, housing and health. But low-income
people often lack a voice in the management of vital natural resources
and, at the same time, are disproportionately exposed to toxic
pollutants and other environmental hazards.

| Project/Volunteer's Life:
|
|
As a volunteer, you will work with a community-based group dedicated
to the conservation of forests. However, you will mostly work in a nursery which
aims to produce indigenous tree species. Volunteers' work include preparing
nursery beds, sowing seeds, weeding, trimming, pruning, thinning various
indigenous tree species, distributing tree seeds to villagers, and other
additional tasks may include: planting, collecting seeds, replanting,
eliminating diseased trees and inventorying of fauna and flora depending on the
season.

| Skills and Qualification

|
There is no need for specific qualifications for the conservation project in
Tanzania . However, volunteers interested in work in this project should have a
love for the nature. Additionally, volunteers should be aware that this
particular conservation project's work is physically demanding.

| Project Locations:
|
|
Environmental projects are available in various towns
including Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast, with shops, banks &
internet cafes nearby. Ghana's vibrant cities are renowned for its
friendly atmosphere where visitors are always welcomed. It's full of
contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern
infrastructure and most of the amenities you would expect from a city.
Volunteers can organize several combinations of potential excursions
during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a
tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during
weekends. For example: waterfalls, monkey sanctuary, markets, mountain biking, drumming school, community based
eco-tourism project, Volta river, Pottery village, hotels, Kenta
weaving studio and many more.
