In Ghana, efforts are underway to improve the health sector, especially the
health of women and children. A high importance is placed on improving the
quality of reproductive health services and on preventing and reducing the
impact of widespread communicable diseases, bridging gaps that prevent efficient
and effective delivery of health services, and fostering partnerships that lead
to improved health in Ghana. Government and non-governmental organizations run a
number of different health facilities, hospitals, maternity clinics, children's
hospitals, HIV/AIDS wards, and alternative-medicine clinics in many cities and
small rural villages. Rustic Volunteer Travel collaborates with these
organizations to provide trained volunteers who are able to promote health
education in the villages and make a difference in the health sector of
Ghana.

| Project/Volunteer's Life:
|
|
A volunteer's role can range from observational to basic assistance,
depending on their level of prior experience. Volunteers will be working with
doctors, spending time in various departments of a busy hospital like
Gynecology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Surgery. Changing
bandages, taking blood pressure and contributing to education about basic
prevention are examples of how volunteers engage in this type of placement. An
important element of these placements is learning about healthcare practices in
different cultures including: assisting doctors and nurses in local hospitals,
working in various departments like Gynecology, Neurology, Orthopedics,
Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Surgery, changing bandage, taking blood pressure, and
educating people on basic prevention and first aid

| Project Locations:
|
|
Health care centers are available options in various towns
including Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast, with shops, banks &
internet cafes nearby. Ghana's vibrant cities are renowned for its
friendly atmosphere where visitors are always welcomed. It's full of
contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern
infrastructure and most of the amenities you would expect from a city.
Volunteers can organize several combinations of potential excursions
during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a
tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during
weekends. For example: waterfalls, monkey sanctuary, markets, purple
princess designs, mountain biking, drumming school, community based
eco-tourism project, Volta river, Pottery village, hotels, Kenta
weaving studio and many more.
