Construction/Renovation

 

tanz.jpgVolunteers have built schools, low-income housing, and playgrounds; restored 12th century castles, ancient fortresses, and other historic landmarks; renovated youth and community centres; and made public places accessible to wheelchairs.You'll find a wide variety of these projects to choose. Typical tasks to expect include: mixing and pouring cement, transporting building materials, scraping and painting walls, hammering, etc.

 

 

   

 

Environmental Protection

 

weeding.jpgMany projects are offered by ARA with a focus on preservation and beautification of public lands. Volunteers build trails and footbridges, planttrees and native flora, eradicate invasive plants, and put up protective fencing in such breathtaking surroundings as Denso River in Koforidua. Expect such tasks as wielding pickaxes, shovels, and rakes; weeding, pruning and transplanting vegetation; cleaning riverbanks and mapping pollution sources.

 

 

 

 

Cultural/Social Projects

 

friends2.jpgCultural projects often engage volunteers in preparing for national festivals, taking part in a travelingheater or music group, or setting up an exhibit on an important current issue. There are not many of these projects offered each year and some will require special skills in acting, music, art, etc. Others just require a willingness to do a variety of tasks such as build a stage, take tickets, and enjoy meeting the public.Social projects, are not as widespread as manual labour projects duze to language barriers, offen an opportunity to interacht on a Daily bass wich children, disabled individuals or the elderly.
